    Hi there,

This is a message from your ghost-like head admin. The member boards are totally dead and I know that a lot of you are probably wondering why the hell you haven’t been bumped up yet. Well, the first reason is because Cat and I are really busy. I’m currently looking at colleges all over the Northeast and I have classes and such, so. But, I’m trying to read through the student boards and see if there are people who qualify. I don’t want the member boards to be a place where only the highest of the elite-y-est elite exist or anything, I’d just like to be a little excited by you, you know? So, here are some tips:

Things that won’t get you in:

    Bad Grammar/Spelling -
I don’t have the greatest grammar and spelling skills myself, but there comes a point when not inserting appropriate commas or misspelling every other word becomes an issue. I have a /really/ hard time reading stuff where there’s only like one comma in the entire post. Nothing makes sense without commas. Commas help us understand what you’re referring to, who you’re talking to, etc. And, use a spell checker, people, okay? Know your yours, you’re, your, there, their, they’re…Anyway, that was my rant on grammar.

Unoriginality: It seems that, increasingly, all intros start EXACTLY the same way. “Maddie Skye Clarke rolled over in bed, pressing the snooze button on her alarm clock. She was late to school.” Sound familiar? Be a little more creative. In fact, NEVER start your intro with your character’s full name. It’ll be a nice challenge. Also, what’s with the focus on appearances? How about personality? I don’t need to know in the first three sentences that your character is 5′10 or whatever. I don’t care at all. I’m really tired of these sort of intros. Start off with a thought, with an action, something to spur my interest. Anything. The entire purpose of an intro is to engage someone so that they’ll join your role-play.

Purple Prose/Arrogance: I don’t give a shit how many adjectives you can stuff into one sentence. In fact, it irritates me. This is sort of the exact opposite of the previous issue. I haven’t seen /too/ much of this on the site, but I’ve sure seen enough of it elsewhere. Purple prose is when you use ridiculously florid and fluffy language in your writing. It’s like a rule that every noun gets at least three adjectives. I used to have a wonderful example from someone’s vampire intro that was just…horrendous, but alas, I’m sure I’ll find another some day. Anyway, long lengthy intros that last FOREVER and have fifty adjectives a sentence won’t get you anywhere. Save it for your whiny goth beat poetry, kay?

Things that will get you in:

Originality: Aside from having a good grasp of the English language, this is the main thing I’m looking for. I want to be captivated by you. I don’t care that an intro is just a means to start a role-play, it should be an amazing piece of narrative, it should tell a story, not just be something that’s ‘necessary.’ Your character should be developed and engaging, as should your story. Draw me in. Make me want to read more. It really shouldn’t be that hard. Also, I don’t know how people manage this, but I’ve seen A LOT of stuff on here that is original and potentially engaging but is just so boring that I want to gouge out my eyes. There’s a loooot of boring, tedious shit on here. Sorry.

Also, something I’d REALLY like to see on here is a DECENT horror role-play. Why the hell does everyone have to know who the killer is? It kills any sort of potential for excitement, for me at least. A say the identity of the killer should be a secret between the OP and the person playing them. Also, stop being so god damn uptight about having your character killed off. Don’t do a horror RP if you’re going to get pissy when someone kills your character without your knowing.

    Thanks,
    Caroline C:

    Banners

I know a lot of you guys like to have little banners in your posts and they’re cool but some of them are way too huge and make it really annoying to read the threads on the boards. So, I’m now going to limit banner size to 350 x 150. Sorry, guys, they’re just a bit huge and garish.

    It’s April…

Hey, guys. It’s April now and we’ve got tons of new users (155 in total, YAY!) So, to help out the newbies, I’d really like you guys to start making some new boards. I’ve noticed that there are only maybe three role-plays that are active. Post an intro, a plot, a one on one, whatever. Let’s also have some diversity in the genres, okay? Make the new users feel super welcome, basically.

Poodle and I have already bumped up a few members and we’ll keep looking over the Student boards this week.

Also, Caeliria’s birthday is on the 20th! 7 months of Caeliria!

The following users have been graduated to Member status:

Sunny, Moony, BeckyXD, mizzyvon, and forgetttmeenot.

For those of you who are still awaiting member status, don’t worry! We’re still watching you. C: Let me give you a few pointers:

    Watch your grammar
    Avoid repetitive phrases
Make characters interesting and compelling–try to add realism to your characters. Make sure your choices reflect your character.
Do not, under any circumstance, use chatspeak. Being lazy gets you nowhere. In addition, do not use “&” or “+” for “and”. It detracts from your writing.
    Flow is important.

If you have any questions, or would like me to personally edit something of yours and give you individual feedback, you are welcome to e-mail me at:

    teacupgovernment@hotmail.com

Please include your username and member status in the header of the e-mail. All e-mails that are not delivered in this format will be ignored and deleted.

Please note that it may take up to two weeks for me to respond to you.

    CBox

Hey guys. Just to let you know–if you post anything vulgar or obscene on the Cbox? It’s an automatic ban and deletion. Not up for review, and you will never be up for reinstatement. It’s pretty much Caroline and I’s choice. So just try to keep it clean. This is a friendly environment, and unlike boards, there isn’t a maturity warning on the Cbox.

So, it’s been a while since I’ve made a blog post so I’d figure I’d make one now. Yay. Here are some things you might want to know about:

    - We have a new admin! Sort of. Bree is on a lot of the time, more than any of us really, so I bumped her up so she could help us out. She’ll just be adding new users so she’s not really a full admin. Cat and I are still the two main people you can go to for help or anything like that.

    - The second thing is advertising. It’s really important to us that people help advertise, I’m so tired of the site being dead, dead, dead. But, it’s also very important that you guys portray the site well. Your grammar and spelling and clarity in writing needs to be top notch so that we give a good impression. If you’re not 100% positive that everything is perfect in your ad, ask Cat or I. Or run it through Word, but Word doesn’t catch a lot of stuff. Also, make sure that you always include these things:

    - There are no limits on the site.
    - All genres are available.
    - There are one on one and group boards.
    - There is not a mandatory audition process.
    - How many members we have.
    - Everyone is welcome.
    - Also mention something about the student-to-member process.

    Thanks!
    -Caroline

    that inactive members get deleted.

If you’ve joined, and then never posted a thing? You’ve been deleted. Rejoin, and post a board. That will save you from deletion.

At least for a few weeks.

    A note to new users

When you first get to the site, you’ll be unable to see any of the forums. You won’t be able to see them after you’ve joined, either, unfortunately. The reason for that is this:

We have to manually add you to our user groups. Unfortunate, I know, but necessary. You will be added to the forum within a day, usually.

    Advertising

    Hey there c:

If you would like to advertise for us, and we much appreciate it, please include the following things in your ad:

    - number of members (you can find this at the bottom of the forums)
    - the student-system we have
    - no genres, no plot, no limits, etc.
    - all orientations
    - your own personal opinions, things you like, whatever
    - how to get to Caeliria (in the first post). I’ve found that ‘caeliria + community - munity’ and telling people to search in their search bar works without getting frozen.

We love, love, love it when people advertise for us but make sure you’re representing us well. We need to come off as professional and literate. If you’re unsure about your technical writing abilities, run your ad through Word. Just, basically, don’t make us look stupid xD.
